The 2013 Maha Kumbh Mela in Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh, was a particularly holy event, held only once every 12 years.

One of the most important activities undertaken by pilgrims at the Kumbh Mela is to take a dip in the holy waters to wash away their sins. At Allahabad, people bathe where the Ganges, Yamuna, and mythical Saraswati Rivers converge. This point is referred to as the Sangam.
